You don't have to be a member to attend ABC!
We're not some kind of exclusive club that only the invited can attend, we welcome everyone. We want you to get involved with ABC church at a level that suits you. Many people just attend special events or christmas/easter services at the church, others attend Sunday Services or send their children to Alive & Kicking or escape. The bible teaches us that "it is better to give than to receive", if you'd like to get involved in volunteering at ABC and want to "put something back in" to the local community then read on. Would you like to get involved in something at ABC? You may have a few minutes, hours or days in your week free and would like to help out in someway at ABC. If that's you, then we'd be delighted to find you a role. Some of our volunteer roles are quite simple, and others are complex or involve training (eg, media, working with children and Catering). In Matthew 20:28, the bible tells us that Jesus came to "serve" not "be served", he demonstrated this in many ways through washing the disciples feet and giving his life on the cross for us.
God desires that we all live a life that seeks to serve others and "love our neighbour as ourselves". At ABC, we do this through serving one another, the church, our local community and places where there are needs across the world. We believe that as we give of our time, talents and finances we honour God with what we have. Volunteering Roles
There are nine key areas of volunteering available at the moment. Have a look and see which may interest you:
1. Facilities & Operations
• I like to help with cleaning and general maintenance.
• I want to be sure that people and things are safe and secure.
• I enjoy setting up rooms and equipment.
• I like to see things neat, tidy and organised.
2. Care & Compassion
• I like to help those in physical, emotional, or spiritual need.
• I desire to see people treated with equality and respect.
• I want to show generosity, kindness, and fairness to others.
• I like making a difference in the lives of the sick and the lonely.
3. Creating, Building & Construction
• I like to work with my hands to build or create things.
• I want to use my artistic talents to impact others.
• I enjoy working outdoors in construction, maintenance or landscaping.
• I love to get involved in DIY type work.
4. Service & Hospitality
• I love meeting new people and like to help them feel welcome.
• I enjoy greeting people and answering their questions.
• I desire to create an atmosphere in which people feel at ease.
• I love preparing and serving refreshments and making people feel at home.
5. Guiding, Teaching and Leading
• I like to guide others, individually or in a group setting, toward next steps on their spiritual journey.
• I like to share information or knowledge.
• I can identify goals and determine how to accomplish them, and I like to lead people toward a common purpose.
• I love guiding and teaching a specific age group like children, youth, young mothers or the elderly.
6. Hands on Help
• I like to show up and do whatever it takes to help.
• I prefer to work behind the scenes.
• I enjoy serving in a variety of ways and settings.
7. Organising, Planning & Detail
• I like to support others by handling detail work and daily routines.
• I enjoy office tasks such as answering phones or data entry.
• I can bring structure and order to any project.
8. Technical & Specialist
• I have a particular skill that could serve others.
• I enjoy working with IT, web, lighting, sound or video.
• I am proficient in construction or another specific trade.
• I can play a musical instrument.
